Professional Experience

Gilbert started working for San Bernardino County as an Eligibility Worker shortly after graduating High School. He quickly promoted to positions including lead worker, supervisor, and manager. Gilbert worked for a few years doing special investigations in Child Welfare. Gilbert has served in the executive leadership of Transitional Assistance Department since 2006 as Deputy Director, Assistance Director and now as Director since September 2016. Gilbert strongly believes in providing a culture and environment that supports excellent customer services at all levels. “Service is our core deliverable and we have complete control over how well we do it.” He is always in pursuit of the latest technology and innovative ideas to further enhance the department’s service and operational models.

Education

Gilbert has two Associate Degrees from Chaffey College and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Cal State San Bernardino.

Family

Gilbert has been married to his wife, Cheri, for 29 years and has two adult children, Kristen and Alex. Alex and his wife, Lindsey, have two sons, Matthew and Micah. Kristen is newly wedded to her husband Daniel.

Community

Gilbert is active in his church and has served as Youth Group Leader and currently serves on his church board as Treasurer.
