Professional Experience
Roderick Franks is the County of Monterey Director of Social Services. He has over three decades of experience working in County Social Services. Roderick started his career as a County Child Protection Social Worker in Minneapolis Mn and had previously served as a County Human Services Director before coming to the County of Monterey.
In his current role, he manages a department of over 930 staff who provide a diverse array of public benefits and services to the residents of the County. These include Child and Adult Protective services, In Home Supportive Services (IHSS), as well as administering MediCal, CalWorks, and CalFresh benefits.
Education
Roderick earned a Master of Arts degree in Psychology, and holds professional certifications as a Licensed Psychologist, and Licensed Social Worker. Relationships with others are important to Roderick, which fit with his motto “we can do more and better when we do it together!”
Family
In his spare time Roderick enjoys running, hiking, and taking in the beautiful sights Monterey County offers. He finished his first Big Sur Marathon last year. When not at work or on a run, he likes trying out new vegan recipes with his wife.
