Wildfire Relief

To the generous and kindhearted staff of CalSAWS,

Together, we collectively raised $10,900 to directly benefit the CalSAWS counties impacted by recent wildfires. Those funds were distributed by members of our CalSAWS team in October via gift cards that directly went to fire victims to purchase groceries, replace household items, and to buy fuel for their vehicles. Your donations granted these individuals some small measure of control again over their own lives; the ability to go out and meet some of their family’s needs again.

“The Susanville Salvation Army is honored to be selected to distribute the very generous CalSAWS gift card donations! To a community like ours, which doubled in size through the summer due to evacuations and seemingly endless smoke days, the gift cards were extremely appreciated and put to good use. We had many people come to the resource centers with no hope and not knowing how to even face the day having lost everything to a consuming fire. These gift cards – far above their monetary value – put a spark of hope in the eyes of these people. For the fire victims, the cards providing clothing and food … and an opportunity to see that they are loved and cared for by people they do not even know. On behalf of all these recipients, we cannot say “Thank you” loud enough!”
